Biography

Brent is the co-founding partner of the Firm.

He is the head of the Firm’s conveyancing department where he represents clients in real estate transactions involving all types of properties and advises on matters related to the Malaysia My2ndHome (MM2H) program.

Brent also advises clients in corporate & commercial laws, including legal compliance related to sole proprietorships, partnerships (conventional & limited liability partnerships) and limited liability companies (LLCs). He has appeared in legal workshops to present some of these areas.
Over the years, Brent has led and advised SMEs and LLCs from a broad range of industries to enter into the relevant commercial, investment & business agreements including cross-border business and shares acquisitions and investments. Above all, he is committed to seeing clients thrive by minimizing legal risks and maximizing successful outcomes.

Brent has expanded his services to emerging businesses and tech start-ups to assist in areas involving legal compliance & information protection as well as raising new business capital and funding.

Having successfully completed a Chinese Law course at one of China’s leading law universities, Brent is now advising both the Chinese and Malaysian corporations and enterprises in Sino-Malaysia cross-border market activities.

Among his key activities include regularly participating at various Belt & Road Initiative (BRI) related events and summits including the Belt & Road Summits in 2017 and 2018 in Hong Kong organised by the Hong Kong Trade Developmental Council (HKDTC) and the China Conference 2018 organised by the South China Morning Post(SCMP).

In 2019, Brent obtained a certification in Islamic Finance to add to his practice portfolio covering Islamic finance and sukuk investments.
In 2021, Brent has traversed to Dubai, United Arab Emirates at the invitation of a leading Emirati law firm where he provides consultation related to regulatory compliance and pre-market entry advice to the clients in the Gulf Countries to enter into China and Malaysia. In recognition of his experience in international trade law, Brent is serving as the legal advisor to the Malaysian Business Council (MBC) UAE registered under Dubai Chamber of Commerce where he also sits in the executive committee.

In line with his role and appointment as an international associate of several Chinese law firms, Brent is featured frequently as guest presenter and speaker on topics ranging from investment laws to incorporation guides to Malaysian company law.

He is presently serving in the executive committee of several established NGOs promoting the commercial interests of Malaysian Chinese businesses with the central and provincial governments of Malaysia and China, as well as serving as legal advisor to several Malaysian business associations.

  • Kuwaiti gold store chain : advising the Kuwaiti client on a gold supply agreement with local partners in the UAE and the wider GCC region for the sale and supply of gold bars from the UAE gold refinery.
  • Malaysian DNA genome sequencing laboratory : advising Malaysian client in the supply and sale of DNA genome processing kits and related services in the DNA genome sector between Malaysia and UAE.
  • Chinese microelectronics company : advising the Chinese SME client on its acquisition of an equity interest in a confidential third party in Malaysia with its intended market distribution to Taiwan, China, Japan and South Korea.
  • Chinese ceramic manufacturer : assisting the Chinese SME client in debt recovery exercise in Sarawak, Malaysia exceeding more than USD($)2million in civil claims.
  • UAE IT systems management company : in relation to the restructuring of new shareholders into the emerging IT company which has an established foothold in designing and implementing IT systems for tourism companies based in UAE.
  • UAE holding group : in relation to incorporation of a new holding company based in the UAE to expand the principal shareholders’ business interest from Jordan and the Netherlands.
  • MNC in Zhejiang China : advising the foreign multinational corporate client based in China in a negligence lawsuit amounting to USD$30 million against a Chinese financial company and a foreign counterparty.
